What do you have against weights on the control end of your cranes? Both cranes you've shown built out of wood you didn't use weights, and that makes the sample footage really jerky/jumpy.

Uhhhh, your lowbudget tripod is only built to support 7-10 lbs. I would assume you'd need a 30-50lb tripod to support this design. I've seen people mount cranes to speaker stands though - that could be an option
